WHAT IS DIVERSION, AND HOW DOES IT AFFECT YOU DIRECTLY?
Diversion is the term used when products are sold in “unauthorized” places. For example, all genuine L'Oréal Professionnel products are sold exclusively in L'Oréal Professionnel Authorized Consultant Salons. Even though L'Oréal Professionnel is only sold directly to authorized salons, you may still find bottles in your local drugstore, online or at a discounter. Salon professional products you find outside of a salon are considered to be “diverted.”
Diverted products could be a health hazard. They are often counterfeit, diluted formulas, or expired formulas that may not be safe to use. Irritation or even infection can result from the use of diverted products.
Safety isn’t the only issue consumers need to worry about when purchasing salon-only products from their local grocery store, drugstore or superstore…their wallets will suffer too! Undercover shopping found that prices of diverted products were 10-20% higher than what they would be in a salon.
Diversion also hurts the professional industry by weakening the stylist-client relationship and the credible need for professional recommendation of the best products for the clients’ hair.

WHAT IS L’OREAL PROFESSIONNEL DOING TO STOP DIVERSION?
In order to protect L'Oréal Professionnel salons and to ensure that consumers only receive the highest quality L'Oréal Professionnel products appropriate for their specific hair needs, L'Oréal Professionnel continues in its commitment to aggressively combat diversion:
A former FBI agent developed the strategies and oversees the implementation of L'Oréal Professionnel’s anti-diversion program.
Exclusive product coding is used to track the movement of L'Oréal Professionnel products. This is the method for tracing products to industry diverters.
L'Oréal Professionnel representatives undertake regular sample sweeps at unauthorized retail outlets in the U.S. These products are subsequently decoded in an effort to identify diverters. Ongoing intelligence procedures uncover diversion schemes, including those involving stores and misuse of the Internet.
